Our developers and product team have been busy planning the development of a public API and we’d love your collaboration! As with any of our development work, our desire is to make your life easier and maximise the benefits that intelliHR can offer you; as such, the reason we are reaching out is to give you a chance to let us know how a public API could be of use to your organisation.
Ok, so not everyone is a developer, definitely not those of us in the Customer Success Team. For that reason, we’ll take a minute to understand what a public API is and following that we’ll provide an example that could be relevant with intelliHR.
Officially: “A public API is a publicly available application programming interface that provides developers with programmatic access to a proprietary software application or web service. APIs are sets of requirements that govern how one application can communicate and interact with another.”
In English: “A public API built by intelliHR will allow your development team to build upon the intelliHR platform to enhance your existing software solutions, potentially by pushing or pulling data to or from the intelliHR platform.
Rather than double handling the people data, the software developers working for Company X can pull the relevant data from the Jobs tab in intelliHR regarding FTE and work type which may be used to determine if the employee hours should be classed as overtime or not.
Our public API won’t integrate intelliHR to another system you are using by itself. A public API is not the same as an integration — creating a public API is like us building a secure door to our platform. We provide you with a secure key to access that door at which point your developers can build a path to other systems that you may use, for the data to be transferred along. It is important to consider the resources at your organisation as it is your development team that would build that pathway to utilise the intelliHR public API.
We are keen to find out if you, as our customers, have an interest in an intelliHR public API and how you envisage using it. This information will greatly help us prioritise our development to deliver the best solution that works for you and your organisation.
